3282012 McKinney Falls plein air 1

A nice drizzle was falling when I literally threw down some color notes and hid the painting to protect it from the rain. I had completed the value sketch with copic markers and pretty much laid down broad lines to define my message in about 10 minutes.

3262012 McKinney Falls plein air 2

On Monday we went out to McKinney Falls State Park. This was the second painting of the day. I liked this little curve in the creek. The body of water is Onion Creek. The weather was great lots of people and great running water as therapy.

Street Corner

My cousin Karmen took this photo for me. I actually like painting from another person's perspective. I think its healthy. He loves New York. This is from a street corner.

3252012 Botanical Garden 1

Today I went to paint in the botanical gardens here in Austin. The flowers were in bloom and almost at their peak. I sat and painted by the iris beds in the shade.
A few people came by to watch and take their own photographs of the irises. Pam took a few shots of me painting in the gardens, hope to post some of them soon.

Morning Rain

A nice rainy commute to work listening to NPR. Its almost fun if the weather isn't too severe.

Tall Cloud 2

I'm still exploring this image. I worked larger in this one with a 12 by 16 format. I tried to bump up the values and contrast in this painting.

Highway Flowers

Since we have our spring, which lasts a good 15 minutes, I decided to get out and paint the wildflowers along MOPAC. I found a good spot with shade and low grass (not a snake fan). I spent about 2 hours enjoying the flowers and ignoring the cars.

Side Porch

This is the side porch of the house that I grew up in. The man is my stepfather. He loved sitting on that porch. He would get that far away look in his eyes while sitting there. I went down to visit our old home a few weeks ago. It's no longer blue.

Aunt Jane

This painting is part of my new series called "People of Commerce". Its a new project that I assigned myself. The goal is 300 paintings done from life. Aunt Jane is my first in the series. I was in Commerce this past weekend. I always check in with her to see if she needs anything. Well on Saturday I asked for permission to draw her. She was pleased with the result. One of her comments: That's me. It wasn't a question and that made me smile.

First Pond Reflection

This is the first painting from my recent paint out with Plein Air Austin. The first painting is always a struggle. I choose to paint when I'm happy and balanced. It takes time to get there. One has to find a place to paint both mentally and physically.
